Introduced in the market in 1935 by the H. Upmann Factory, the Montecristo brand first consisted of only five sizes identified by numbers instead of names. Other sizes were added in the early 70s. the distinctive flavor of Montecristo has given delight to smokers, so much that it has for two decades dominated preference among Habanos.

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated Habanos brand. Its disctinctive medium to full flavour forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged.

The reputation of this classic corona can suffer from the unsettled quality control applied in the factory.
